PARITY PILOT SITES

PARITY will demonstrate all its results in four demonstration sites with varying characteristics in terms of climatic zones, proliferation of RES and demand device types, regulatory frameworks and market codes as well as culture and environmental consciousness.

The sites are located in Granada-Spain, Athens-Greece, Malmo-Sweden and Massagno-Switzerland.

Tailored Equipment Procurement Process: We meticulously outlined the bill of materials for each pilot site, in addition to identifying any supplementary equipment needs. This paved the way for the subsequent pivotal phase; the seamless procurement of the required equipment.

Our methodical approach ensures that each pilot site is equipped precisely and efficiently, setting the foundation for successful project execution.

Facilitating Seamless Procurement: Upon the successful conclusion of each pilot’s procurement process, the PARITY system’s installation and commissioning initiatives were initiated.

Particularly for pilots showcasing the project’s human-centric services, which entail the deployment of intricate IoT equipment, a series of meticulously planned training sessions were orchestrated.

Empowering Partners through Training: These training endeavors were meticulously designed to equip our partners with the essential skills and resources needed to proficiently deploy and sustain the integrated IoT infrastructure throughout the project’s entirety.

3 | Validation Activities Planning

Validating Project Outcomes: In our dedication to achieving exceptional impact, we formulated the following comprehensive set of test cases to validate the outcomes of the project, associating them with one or more Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

    • Increasing self-consumption per prosumer individually
    • P2P trading within the LEM/LFM
    • EV usage profiling and EV station flexibility forecasting
    • Production of EV charging optimized schedules
    • Smart grid management for grid instability detection and limitation
    • Active network management via the use of D-STATCOM
    • Congestion management when in yellow grid state through price signals by DSO
    • Participation in the FCRD market
    • Trading to intraday wholesale energy market: sell energy stored in stationary batteries or generated from PVs
    • Peak shaving – congestion management in red state

Data-Driven Test Case Validation: Following the establishment of our meticulously designed test cases and their corresponding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), we seamlessly transitioned into the data collection phase.

4 | Key Performance Indicators Evaluation

Creation of KPI Datasheets
Evaluation of KPIs using data collected from the pilot sites

Strategically Informing Progress through KPI Evaluation: At the core of our comprehensive approach lies the assessment of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

These crucial metrics serve as the compass guiding our pursuit of excellence, enabling us to evaluate performance both at the prosumer level and within the realm of grid operations.

To facilitate this intricate process, we intricately developed individual datasheets for every KPI, ensuring a structured and informed approach.

Our dedication to precision is reflected in the seamless integration of real-world data collected from our pilot sites. This data-driven methodology forms the backbone of our KPI evaluation process, enabling us to gauge the tangible and intangible impact of PARITY project.

Lessons Learnt from the pilot sites

Meticulous pre-installation planning

Activities in the pilot sites underscored the necessity of thoroughly planning the hardware and software's pre-installation to streamline processes, mitigate challenges, and ensure the successful execution of installations.

Ealy engagement with the invloved prosumers

A key takeaway has been the significance of establishing effective communication channels and engagement strategies with prosumers to foster their active participation and ensure project objectives are met.

Plan for unforeseen delays

The project highlighted the critical importance of having a robust plan in place to address unforeseen delays and disruptions to maintain project timelines and outcomes.

Safety documentation and surveying

When installing a battery system there is the necessity for meticulous safety documentation, especially for fire, as well as for thorough surveying, to ensure project success and compliance.

Communication methods for data exchange

It is important to use standardized communication methods for data exchange to mitigate delays and inaccuracies.
